ABYAN (AdenOnline) – Military sources said to Aden Online that the Yemeni army was able to enter Zanjibar on Thursday, after violent clashes with Al-Qaeda linked militants in the city.
The sources said that units of the Yemeni army, located in the eastern suburbs of the city, intruded into the center of Zanjibar, which enabled them to take over the Martyrs’ Square, the CID building and Gulf of Aden Factory.
“Fierce clashes broke took place in the Martyrs’ Square between the armed groups and the Yemeni army.” The sources said, pointing out: “The army was able to take over the Martyrs’ Square, while other units started clearing the neighboring areas from any presence of Al-Qaeda militants.”
To the west of Zanjibar, units of the Yemeni army marched towards Al-Koud area, to control it completely, reaching the western suburbs of Zanjibar.
